Download Transmit 5.1.4. One of the best FTP clients for Mac. The dozens of characteristics that Transmit features convert it into a favorite FTP client for Mac users. Compatible with FTP, SFTP and TLS/SSL protocols, it offers faster access to iDisk accounts than Finder and allows you to edit a file. Transmit for Mac is a full service FTP client for the OS X platform. Transmit looks great, is easy to use, and should be a welcome program for anyone who has had difficulties transferring files.

Transmit 4 allows users to transfer files easily and efficiently.

When it comes to FTP clients, there are no shortage of options. When it comes to finding the ultimate in file transfer protocol look no farther then Transmit, designed by the awesome team at Panic Transmit is not only beautiful to look at, but it also functions great.

Over the years I’ve used many different FTP programs for Mac and Windows and have found functions I like and dislike – but, more dislike than like. Transmit gives me all the things I like and non of the dislikes so it’s become my number one go to when working on web-based projects.

The team at Panic really has a great sense of design. I say this because when you look at Transmit, you don’t see a mess of menus blasting you with unnecessary extras. You see what you need. With Transmit, you know that it’s everything a professional could need in an FTP client. I’ve been a user of Transmit for many years, and am happy with the upgrade to Transmit 4.

Transmit 4 takes the original Transmit to a higher level. It has 45+ new features and up to 25x the speed of previous versions. If you need to transfer files – you need Transmit 4. When opening Transmit, you are presented with your computer’s file browser. This allows you to have access to all the files on your computer for ease of transfer to other FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and Amazon S3 sites. The top features of Transmit include:

  • Protocol power
  • Flexible favorites for fast server access
  • Handy two-pane view
  • Fast multiple-connection transfers
  • Easy transfer manager
  • Syncronization
  • Quick look, CoverFlow, Image thumbnail view
  • Places for one-click folder access
  • FXP Support
  • Bandwidth limiting

One of the newest features in Transmit is Transmit Disk. With Transmit Disk, you can now mount any of your favorites in the Finder itself and have them available even if Transmit is not running. The favorites appear as mounted volumes and allow you to drag files to them to transfer without even opening the Transmit app.

For those who have not used Transmit before, adding a favorite to Transmit only takes a few steps. First you click on the + symbol at the bottom of the browser window. You give your favorite a nickname so that you can access it easily later on. Then you select the type of protocol (FTP, SFTP, etc.). Type in the server name (ftp.domain.com), then, add in your user name and password. There are more advanced options that include Port, Root URL, Remote Path and Local Path. You also have the option to save the favorite as a Droplet. The entire process only takes a few moments and then your favorite file sharing option is available.

As I mentioned above, I’ve had a lot of experience with FTP clients and Transmit continues to be my favorite option for this type of work. It is available in the Mac App Store for $33.99. I highly recommend it if you need to transfer files of any type. For more information, vistit panic.com.
