Think of writing a research paper containing hundreds of pages in one go, or your first assignment. Every time I write anything (like this blog) I require a tool which could automate my writing. In the meantime, it works for both Windows and Mac computers and there is no need to worry about your operating system if it’s one of these ones. A good spelling and grammar check on Mac needs to be fats and powerful, and that’s’ what this one does.
You can have Pages check spelling while you type and correct mistakes automatically. You can also have Pages check grammar and add terms to the dictionary so they’re not marked as misspellings.
If you want to check spelling in a different language, first change the language of the dictionary.
Check spelling and grammar
Do one of the following:
Press Command-semicolon (;) on the keyboard.
Choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Check Grammar With Spelling (a checkmark indicates it’s on), then choose Check Document Now, or press Command-semicolon (;).
The first spelling error is highlighted, and grammar errors are underlined in green.
To see suggested spellings or grammar corrections for a word, Control-click it, then click the correction you want to use.
To ignore a misspelling, Control-click the word, then choose Ignore Spelling.
The word is ignored if it occurs again in the document (it will be highlighted in other documents). If you later want to remove it from the Ignored Words list, open Pages preferences, click Auto-Correction, tap the Ignored Words button, and then remove the word.
To show the next error, press Command-semicolon.
Use autocorrection
When your spelling is checked automatically, misspelled words are underlined in red, and suggested corrections are shown in blue under the word. If you don’t see autocorrect suggestions, make sure autocorrection is turned on.
Please look for the Stamps.com icon on your desktop and click it to launch Stamps.com. Note to Mac Users: Since the Stamps.com software is only compatible with Windows computers, Mac users should use Stamps.com Online to print postage.

Choose Pages > Preferences (from the Pages menu at the top of your screen).
Click Auto-Correction at the top of the preferences window, then select or deselect “Correct spelling automatically.”
With autocorrection on, do any of the following:
Accept suggestions: If there’s only one suggested correction, just keep typing to have the word changed to the suggestion. If two or more suggestions are shown, choose one.
Ignore suggestions: Press the Esc (Escape) key, then continue typing.
Undo autocorrections: An automatically corrected word is briefly underlined in blue. To revert to your original spelling, put the insertion point after the word to show your original spelling, then choose your spelling. You can also Control-click the word to show your spelling, then choose it.
Add and remove words from the spelling dictionary
Add a word: Control-click the word in your document, then choose Learn Spelling in the shortcut menu. The word is added to the macOS dictionary used by Pages and other apps.
Remove a word: Control-click the word in your document, then choose Unlearn Spelling in the shortcut menu. The word is removed from the macOS dictionary used by Pages and other apps.
Designate words to ignore in Pages: Choose Pages > Preferences (from the Pages menu at the top of your screen). Click Auto-Correction at the top of the preferences window, then click the Ignored Words button in the Spelling section. Click , then type the word you want the spelling checker to ignore in Pages documents. Click OK when you’re done.
Note: If you add a word to the spelling dictionary, it’s added for all languages.
Use the Spelling and Grammar window
You can open the Spelling and Grammar window to check spelling and grammar in your document.
Choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar (from the Edit menu at the top of your screen).
To check only specific text, first select the text.

Set up spell checking for multiple languages
In System Preferences, you can set up your Mac to automatically check spelling for different languages.
Open System Preferences (from the Apple menu at the top-left corner of your screen).
Click Keyboard, then click Text at the top of the window.
Click the Spelling pop-up menu, then choose Set Up at the bottom of the menu.
Do any of the following:
Drag the languages in the list into the order you want them checked.
Select the checkbox next to languages you want checked.
If you have a dictionary file you want to use, copy it to the Spelling folder in your Library folder.
Click Done.
Click the Spelling pop-up menu again, then choose Automatic by Language.
Close the keyboard preferences window.
You can also choose a language for spell checking in the Spelling and Grammar window. Choose Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar. Click the pop-up menu at the bottom of the window, then choose a language.
