Playing Age of Empires 2 cross-platform between a PC (Windows 7) and a Mac (OS X 10.10 Yosemite) works- at least if you also play the PC version through Wine on the Mac.Have successfully done this today, playing a two-player game on the same (W)LAN. I can't play AoE 2 on 1280x1024 the highest res I get is 1024x748 the 1280x1024 box is just grayed out. I found a function on the windows version that anables you to give a command before you start up the game but this aplication is not available on mac. Does anyone have/had the same problem and knows how to fix it please help. Thanks Bloath. For those who can't run this: use old Mac with Mac Classic (up to 9.2.2) OS or MacOS X 10.4 with classic environment.
If not possible - use an emulator like Basilisk II (680x0, up to OS 8.1) or SheepShaver (PPC, up to OS 9.1).

For those of you asking for an update: it is not possible.
This is a PPC application and will not run on Intel Macs that don't support Rosetta. So it can't be run on Lion and forward.
